Injecting new child care ‘nutrients’ to parents
We have started conducting talks and hands-on trainings for low-income families since 2016. As of mid-February 2017, over 150 parents have participated our talks. Our training topics include Diagnosis of Autism, Increasing Spontaneous Speech in Effective Teaching Techniques, etc.
We organised a parent talk at our Parents Resource Centre on 11 February. Our Senior Behavioural Therapist introduced some major behaviour problems of children with Autism and the ways to address and improve these problems. During the talk, parents were paying attention to learn and marked down the key points on their notebooks. In addition, they raised out their queries when they had encountered difficulties. All parents received useful information and would try to use these new teaching techniques at home for teaching their children. We will continue to organise different parent talks and workshops, working with parents together to help their children developing different skills.
