There must be a way if you take actions, no matter how smooth or how tough the way is 2018-06-26

One said, “All roads lead to Rome”. Teng’s mother could not agree more with this proverb. She further elaborated, “There must be a way if you take actions, no matter how smooth or how tough it is.” Most parents raising children with Autism feel lost about the future, but Teng’s mother is an exception. She is very positive and optimistic that all of us could learn a lesson from her. Her sharing is as below:

Teng was two years old when he was diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). I was extremely worried at the moment and sometimes cried out of my own control. After spending days to digest the news, a social worker gave me information on special schools. By then I started to do more research and applied for various trainings for Teng. At the same time, I went to the library to borrow books about ASD in order to gain more knowledge on the disorder to support Teng on the training. With the referral from a friend, I heard about APF and Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) then I applied the 1 to 1 ABA training for Teng.

Teng had never expressed himself with words before the training. After around two weeks training, with the effort of APF’s therapists, Teng uttered more sounds. At the moment, I was moved to tears.

Despite it takes more times to train Teng than other normal kids on some basic skills, I will not give up. In fact, I enhanced my patience in the process and developed methods to help him on training at home. I am very grateful seeing his improvements day by day.
